Back from holidays, back from a very Mindful rest!
I spent two weeks re-learning how to eat. I was on a special Aryuvedic diet which not only consists of eating the right food for my type ( Vatta/pitta – loads of wind and fire), but an ingredient of the diet is ‚slow mindful eating’ in order to taste the subtleties and varieties of different foods, but also to allow for proper digestion. I thought I always ate slowly but for two weeks I repeated the famous ‚riasin practice ‚ of MBLC ‚taster’ (sic) courses.
I began to actually feel the digestion process, the emotions and thoughts that appeared, and the desire to hurry the process to get to desert! The slow eating turned into feeling my body more keenly, my feet, the sounds around and what my stomach really wanted and needed. I lost a couple of kilos, which has given me a new lightness, my ‚doshas’ are more in balance and I keep my holiday feeling everytime I eat!
I reflected then on how slowing down one major activity has a knock-on effect: a greater connection to my body, a happier body, and the ‚after-glow’ of slowing down..
Holidays are great too for listening to someone else taking me through the body-scan, and I found myself using a lot of the Mindful Association recordings, catching up on teachings by Rob Nairn, once every couple of days. I listen to them differently now, after the last few years of practice, and teaching – new things resound in me. Actually, I find it so rich to go back to his teachings on our basic sitting practise , his techniique of eliciting answers and the way he exposes our neurotic messes!!
We had our Wroclaw Mindfulness Day last Saturday – a wonderful beginning to post-holiday life, feeling the support of the local ‚sangha’ as we practised together, then ate supper together and shared our lives little by little. Thank you all the Wroclaw group!!
